Where to get a flywheel machined?

Post by Shakey »

I need some help in where I could get a part for my robot made. It is the 'flywheel' type weapon but it isn't quite normal more like a bar but I lack the facilities in order to create one.

This (rather bad) picture should show the type of shape I am looking for if it helps.

So if any of you know where I can get something like this machined please help!

EDIT: Would a flywheel use a brushed or brushless motor?

you want to make the ends thicker, if that is spinning round and hits something the thin ends will just snap off, even if they are made of metal.

I know but as I said the picture isn't quite what I wanted. It would also be reasonably wide if I can keep it underweight.

What sort of dimentions are you looking for, thickness / overall diameter etc?

There are also a few people on the FRA forum who are able to machine parts, if you put something on the wanted tab.

This is a video of a robot in progress with a 6" hardox blade made by Kenny who is on the FRA forum.

I was going to go for a 3" diameter. Not sure about the thickness but I have:

70g In electronics (except disc motor and wheels)
Current wheels are 7g each before weight saving

Leaving 66g for a chassis, disc motor and disc.

I wonder if i could save weight from the sabertooth?

I had some parts machined by http://aem-products.co.uk/ They came out looking great, although quite expensive. I'd suggest getting some quotes.
