All ive done so far is take apart a remote control car and ended up throwing it away i dont know where to start. So if anyone can tell me how much i need to spend and what i do first id be really grateful. :)

Ah, newcomer. Been a while since we had one of these here. Firstly, welcome and good luck! Ants are great fun.

Secondly, the advice. I'd reccomend you start with some good radio gear. Buy a skysport 4 (or similar), with all the gear. Should set you back about ?100, maybe less used. May sound like a large outlay, but thats your basic starter kit. You get your lot, charger, transmitter, reciever, servos, batteries. You literally have everything you need to make an antweight. It may be a bit heavy, but the you can always replace things later. Plus standard servos are the easiest to mod, and big batterys last forever, so you can get plenty of practise in.

Just my opinion, but good luck anyway.

Hi Dudd, and welcome!
You can find several how-to's on various websites, take a look at: http://www.antweight.co.uk/build/howto_1.htm
The Futaba Skysport 4 mentioned above is a good starting point, alternatively the Hitec Laser 4. Make sure you get one for 40MHz (35MHz is for aircraft only!).
The servos that come with standard kits are really too big and heavy for ants. You can usually "trade up" to smaller servos by paying the difference. 9-18g servos are most commonly used in ants.
The standard receiver is fine to start with, but lighter (and more expensive!) ones are available as you progress.
You can buy a complete kit including radio gear and pre-modified servos from the shop on this site http://212.67.202.149/~robotwars1/ants/shop/

Once you've got all the specialist bits (and some batteries - easiest to start with 2/3AAA NiMH) you can modify the servos and start to make the other bits you will need - wheels, chassis and body. Strong, light materials like balsa wood, art card and polycarbonate are the order of the day.

I you get stuck, trawl through the forum as someone has probably had the same problem before! If you're still stuck the post a question and most likely someone will give you an answer or at least point you in the right direction.

Good luck and have fun!
