Post by Jonathan J » Fri Mar 29, 2019 9:15 pm

Hi all I was wondering if I could use these for my ants

Looks plausible, but the description is light on details.

Specifically, it has only one (yellow) wire shown to interface to the receiver, without any suggestion of whether this is PPM (combined signal), or something else e.g. S-Bus or I-Bus. I'm guessing it's PPM, because on my RXs the PPM is usually colour-coded yellow :)

Also the dimensions aren't given, but as there are two DIP8 driver chips widthwise, then it seems it's about 22mm wide, and I suppose about 30mm long.

EDIT: update

I completely failed to notice that there's also a white wire, so, where's the doc? Maybe the white & yellow are PWM for the two channels, OR they do mixing, OR they are used for different single-wire combined signals. There's really no way of telling from the picture.

Yes these work fine.

You have to balance their heavy weight compared to other ESC which are much lighter but much more expensive.

You can desolder the large capacitor to save some weight.

i use these same esc's in a couple of my ants...

as mentioned, cut out the capacitor to save a little size and weight...

specs are 2-3s and 5amps per channel...

the lone signal wire plugs usually into channel 2 and the regular 3 wire plug (ground positive and signal) into channel 1...

i would reccommend shortening the wires as they are all pretty long...

size wise (according to my ruler) is 25mm by 32mm (40mm with capacitor) by around 5mm...

be aware, the wires are soldered at each end which makes placement a little trickier, but no problem if you have the space...

i have had no issues with the ones i have used and they have been through rigorous testing and 2 antweight tournament's...

the buyer you listed is one i have purchased from before, they sent me 2 free esc's because of an error in sending out an order (sent about 12 days late) but both pairs came in about 2 weeks after they were sent...

these run 2 n20's per channel fine so work great for 4wd...

hopefully this helps you get your ant built and you can join us all in the pleasure of robot combat...

see you in the arena

unfortunately, i didn't weigh them before installing them in my bots.

but even if I did, it may be more or less than what you get depending on how short you make the wires and whether you cut or keep the capacitor... you can also do away with the plastic plugs and just cover each of the 4 (2 signal 1 ground 1 positive) wires with a little bit of heat shrink and plug each manually into the rx...

That’s okay and yeah I’m short on weight left to spare in vortex
