Micro gear motors

Post by Paulmchurd »

Hello,

As you may have noticed(from my previous posts) I am an absolute novice at robot building. Trial and error of continues servos - dasmikro chip. Built 3 small cardboard robots.

The eBay seller of N20 gear motor managed to send me 2 differnt RPM models.

My query is can anyone recommend a place to buy micro gear motors and what RPM/voltage range am I looking for to work best with a dasmikro ESC.

Thanks
Paul

The optimum motors are between 200 and 500 rpm at 6V depending how fast you want it.
DC motor speed is directly proportional to the voltage so 200 rpm at 12v is only 100 rpm at 6v
The price these days seems to be on the increase from a minimum of around £2.50 a few months back to over £4 and that's from China.
If you want them in a week or so you seem to need to pay over £8 each.
I haven't used this supplier but this a the sort of spec you need.

Thanks again Peter for your knowledge.

I've found this on hobbyking.

Long wait from China.

Yes I saw those but they all seem to be out of stock and the speed info doesn't seem to be correct.
They quote 20,000 kv which is the motor speed per volt and 50:1 gear ratio.
Unless I am having a senior moment, which is quite likely, that gives an out put speed at 6 volts as.
20000 x 6 divided by 50 = 2400 rpm

Ah I thought it was just 20000/50 which 400rpm. Thought I'd stumbled on a bargain.

They look perfect 600 rpm at 12v means 300 rpm at 6v and 420 rpm at 8.4v (2 lithium cells).
Also UK supplier and good price

They're not the cheapest by a long shot, but Hobbytronics have 4 ratios of the Pololu motors with two different shaft lengths; and lots of compatible accessories.

I know Shakey sells some but I've never tried them.
