GeorgeR's robots

Post by GeorgeR »

I guess I'll make a thread for my antweights, so here is my first attempt, Zero.

For my first ant I wanted something simple and robust so i went for a basic 2 wheel drive rambot.

Specs
121x93x32mm, 149g
NanoTwo esc, Pololu HP 30:1 motors
1.5mm 6082 Alu chassis, 0.9mm Stainless Steel scoop, 0.5mm Titanium armour

The 30:1 hp motors combined with the 32mm wheels mean it's pretty quick, but I'm getting the hang of driving it.
I definitely learnt a lot during the process, and can't wait to give it a go at an event.

Thanks guys, unfortunately I can't make it this weekend as I'm at a wedding, but I'll definitely get to the next event, whenever that is.

In what is almost certainly a stupid idea I've decided to give my next antweight a rather oversized axe as a weapon, here it is with my other bot for scale...

Now I guess I should make a robot to attach it to before ant freeze.

This is a rather late post as the ant actually made its debut at ant freeze back in January, but better late than never here is Axiom...

Image

Specs
136x102x26mm, 150g
NanoTwo and 30:1 500rpm motors for drive, Vex 29 and Pololu HP's for the axe.
1.5mm Polycarb chassis, 1mm polycarb armor. The axe weighs in at 40g (not including the motors) and is all 304 stainless steel, with the axe head being made from a bit of solid 12mm square bar.

This was how it looked pre ant freeze, but it did pick up some damage at the event. Dont Hug Me rather wrecked the left armor panel, putting a hole in the side, a big split across the front panel, as well as a crack in the chassis and a few dents in the axe head, Anticyclone subsequently chewed up the front stability prongs, and also removed a bolt head.
Despite the damage I was happy with Axioms performance and it picked up two wins. Zero also picked up a win and probably should have had more, but the combination of it being far too fast and my dodgy driving rather hampered success.
