These are the photos of the CAD model for my new flipper and grabber/eater, the two brown side panels are 13mm thick of hardwood flooring that warped too much for the original purpose with some of the inside dremeled out to save weight as otherwise they are 30g. The wood is screwed onto a super light 1mm polycarbonate baseplate which goes all the way to the back and the motors are mounted on to it. The Front piece and the flipper/grabber are hinged 1.2mm aluminium, the front one folds back to start the fight within 4 inches and the flipper/grabber will flip it down, the slanted piece the servo is on and the back piece just above the wheels are 1 piece of 0.7mm aluminium which is going to be glued into a corresponding slit in the wooden side panels, however i would not recomend 0.7mm aluminium to anyone as its super bendy. I have already began building and will try to keep this update  Incase anyones wondering the reason there is only motors and no other electrics aswell as no link between the flipper and servo it is because i was certain they would fit and i didnt want to waste time drawing them in

Wooden, hinged, you aren't buliding a antweight sized door by any chance?
Seriously though, very cool idea, and innovative aswell

Progress!!!

I have cut the polycarbonate and the wood, and I've screwed some fairly long screws through the polycarb and into the wood aswell as bolting the motor mounts on. I have also cut the thin aluminium back piece and the front hugged piece and I have cut the slots and grooves for both but not attached them yet.

I would be honoured if that was true lol he says looking at the 8 prototype linkages sitting in a heap next to him and turns slightly further to examine the weak axles made of old radio aerials that will bend under impact but heh, they were free and that was matters right? Also its probably going to be sprayed in various luminous or black shades based on the old spray paints in my garage that need using up, Textured stone sprayed ant anyone?

Looking good! I like the flipper/grabber combo.

I liked it too until I spent an hour solid trying to get a mechanism with no success, it's the torque on the return/grab that's the problem

The bot is finished with only expenses being the £4.82 servo as all materials were 'borrowed' or spares, for example the two axles for the front section an the flipper were taken from the aerial of a broken radio, pictures to come... :P

I present to you the mighty '£4.82 + VAT'
Image
This is how it fits in the cube, when it flips upwards it knocks the front piece down to look like this

That's the fully up position

and the final ish look:

It does not self right at the moment so i am looking into putting a horn on the flipper but if its too much hassle i will leave it be on the basis if someone can fully flip it then I'm probably stuffed anyway :o

Due to every waking moment being spent on the vertical spinner that is basically from scratch in a rush for bath, the horn or selfrighting has been ignored and I'm going to run on the floorless basis that if I get flipped I'm sorta losing anyway
