Dual weapon ant build diary
Hi all,
wanted to introduce my idea for a 2 weaponed ant.
It is going to be a challenge with my plans due to the weight, but i think its a challenge worth taking on! who knows what the results will be like,
Anyway, this is a new bot that adds to my DELLapidated bANTtry and my disk wedge bot, which have not actually been to a battle...
Dell was an initial tester push 4WD bot, and Disk was my first 3d printed chasis bot.
This new bot will have a tube spinner and a flipper in one compact unit.
My current parts i have been buying will allow me to have a nice 3d printed chasis with 0.3mm titanium armour. The sides will be of 4mm CF.
Here is a nice (somewhat not completed) solidworks model of the bot. currently i am happy with the weights, once i have added weight reducing holes in the tube and cut off the excess from the servo.
https://flic.kr/p/HbbgRH
So far i have machined the tube up and started to machine my CF plates for the sides, although i need to finish the chasis before i can settle on the CF sides.
Will have a nice clear PC top` too to see the goodies.
I am waiting for the final part to come, my Lemon RX from the US before i have all parts to finish off a nice design.
Specs: (to confirm when gone to my stock, will add links soon - most from hobbyking)
Weapon: Flipper and spinning tube
Drive: NanoTwo controller with 2 gear motors (speed unknown as lost the spec sheet!)
Battery: Nano 180mAh 2S
Flipper: Servo 9g
Tube motor Turnigy brushless motor 18?? ?
Brushless motor ESC: Kingkong 10A (12A) to confirm
RX: LemonRx 6 axis
Chasis: 3D printed, CF and titanium/Polycarbonate
Will update this as I go.

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary
Today i received the final piece of the puzzle, my 2 Lemon Rx have arrived.
I bought 2 of them so the total would be £14.63 ish, just under the import duty price,so i would have to paty the additional £8 plus customs charge. I would have bought the 5 pack, but it would have cost the same if i bought 4 from UK in the end.
I have the package and yes i was not charged duty, but i noticed they are labeled as gifts (which they are... ) and that they are valued at $2.30 (which they are... ) so i guess if i bought the 5 pack, they declaration would have been less than the (actual... ) cost.
Oh well, i can now model the final part of the puzzle and see what the weight is coming in as.

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary
Today I managed to get to use my milling machine at lunch time, and am very impressed by how well the mill left the edges of the acrylic (pinched from model making) I will be using carbon in the final one, but I do like the clear plastic look, although it would shatter, anyways, my chassis base is printing and the test sides are done, awaiting to fit it together.
Sadly I cant seem to get the url for the images to copy on my iPad, so please take a look at my Flickr pages for the pics, I'm really impressed by the finish from the mill, no post processing... And I must buy a cheap chopping board for some good plastic!

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary
Changed to my laptop, pics here:

Acrylic test sides milled in milling machine. No post cleanup!
Looking good, I love this machine! Much better than my first printer back in 2009!
Sorted the images!
Anyway, if anyone wants to have some 3D printing done, feel free to drop me a message (UK) as i need an excuse to use my MANY colors!
And the weight...

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary
I have been working on a new chassis for the ant, and so far this is what i have come up with
It looks a bit sporty on its own i think, but the spoiler is meant to be a back guard from the drum.
I have had the ant driving around and spinning up against my old ant chasis, and i am very impressed, although i would be dumbing down the speed of the drum so that it does hit, but doesnt knock me around the arena incase it too throws me out!

Re: Dual weapon ant build diary
Just an update to the design, shall try and print this tonight and see how it goes, once i have it printed i can set to removing excess plastic for much needed weight reduction!
