What armour for a wedge?

If you read my last post you would know that im looking to make a wedge the same style as battlebots competitor the crusher. I was just wandering if something like HDPE would be a good armour and if so how thick. im also worried about motor mounts attaching wheels to motors and what motors I should get. in short im scared of everything and am awful with this kind of thing especially all this rc guff (im pretty dumb when it comes to this sort of thing).

Parts list:
One of Rorys kit (Includes receiver, speed controller, 2 wheels, 2 motors and motor mounts)
1 180mah 2 cell LiPo (Readily available from hobbyking)
1 LiPo charger (Also available from hobbyking)
1 transmitter (Any DSM2 radio system. Devo 7e/ Eflite Blade/OrangeTX/DX6i etc)
Servo (If you want a weapon, MG90 or similar metal geared servo)
1.5-2mm Polycarbonate (about an a4 sheet)
M2 Bolts

Tools:
Hand drill (with 2mm drill bit),
Scissors (a good pair for cutting the polycarb),
Glue gun,
Cardboard,
Velcro

Once you have all that grab you cardboard and arrange all the parts on it, use the cardboard to make a chassis how you'd like it. When you're done use the cardboard as a template to cut out the polycarb, if you can make most of the chassis using a single piece and folding it even better. Use the bolts to hold the robot together and for the motor mounts (This is what the drill is for). The gluegun can also be quite useful but you may need to rough the polycarb up a bit to make it stick. Velcro is good for securing the battery as it holds it down and lets you remove it to charge.

Now back too parts and stuff I already have a receiver and transmitter all ready to go which im all happy about for speed controllers would these be good enough I already own 2 http://www.fingertechrobotics.com/prodd ... -tinyESCv2 wheels and motors are a bit of a problem but there pretty cheap if I look hard enough and I already have some lego one which people use. For batteries I already have some of these which are a bit hefty but I think I could use http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/st ... _Pack.html

Finger techs will work though if you're transmitter can't do mixing you'll need to buy a mixer. On batteries I'd go for the turnigy nanotech range, they are ideal (make sure you get one with the red JST connector) and I haven't had any fail on me (unlike the Rhino ones).
