would this be possible?

Would it be possible to make a good spring powered antweight flipper? If so what parts and how? I know its a short and stupid question but im curious.

Yes it's possible, but there are a number of problems to overcome. There have been a few attempts over the years, but few have managed to make it work well.
For a first ant go with a servo-powered lifter. You won't get much of a "flip" but it is easy to make and should be solid, competitive and (most importantly) reliable without too many problems. Once you've been to an event and have seen what other folks are up to (and asked questions!) you can always upgrade to a spring/elastic powered flipper. Many robots don't enter two competitions in the same configuration!

The mechanism for a spring-powered flipper is quite complicated. It needs to be able to release the spring quickly and then it needs to wind the flipper back to the starting point (against the force of the spring) ready for the next flip. A one-shot flipper is not much use so you need a way of "reloading"!

Look at this post and the following page (and the linked YouTube videos) for some idea of how much effort goes into an elastic-powered flipper that actually works... :)

Thank you very much I really appreciate it :D I think I will not make a spring powered one then. Well for now at least maybe when im more experienced.

I think Void has a spring flipper that VERY affective but Scott has competed for so long that it is probably best to start standard with a servo and enter a comp and see how or doing weight wise before you think about upgrading

Void has never had a spring flipper, so not sure where that information is from :P. I've been developing a spring flipper using an enormous servo, heavily modified, and a gigantic spring, but it's difficult to make it strong enough that it doesn't explode. Definitely go with a servo for your first robot!

Oh when I saw you and your mighty spring at Rory's AWS I thought someone said it was the new update of void
