Off Road arena

Post by Spaceman »

While Driving back from AWS, me and Richard 2 were discussing Ideas that could be tried for non standard fights.

One Idea that I want to gauge interest on is a "off road" arena. ideas for that include:

Bumpy ground
multiple levels
Ramps etc

I suspect an assault course has been done before so not sure how original the idea is.

any thoughts?

That would be cool however most bots are too low to the floor but I always fancied a ramp arena or something else I thought would be cool would be a dry swimming pool setup- a raised floor with a massive pit taking up most floor but has a slope out.

That would be cool.

My thinking It might get beople to eventually design robots with the arena in mind. I realise that's a somewhat grand and assuming idea.

Certainly a multi level arena would be intresting. Maybe combining your swimming pool set up with a ramped bridge too.

I've always thought an uneven arena would be the best way around the current situation where so much depends on having a low front with acetate and everything, so I'd be all in favour of this :) (it'd also bring back a tiny bit of Robot Wars PC game nostalgia...)

What would be really interesting is if we had semi underwater weight class where you had to either be water tight or float, a whole lot of inginuity could come from that if it weren't for the fact you would need a whole new soaking wet arena and a whole new class.

I'd be up for that but I think we're getting into an entirely different realm there!

Yeah... No :P

I like the idea of it and the different design challenge it brings.
