Both are pretty terrible to be honest (I thought normal steel was mild :S ). But they won't hold a tooth.

Re: Ofsted/my friendly uncle/I don't know
2mm stainless is probably the best cheap option; Why wait uses stainless, and although not ideal it works much better than mild.

Re: Ofsted/my friendly uncle/I don't know
I had asked laser master and kcut for quotes on SS a while back and lasermaster said £28 and kcut said £18!! A £10 pound difference is huge for an £18 product so one wonders what lasermaster were thinking but unless anyone says otherwise or suggests a much cheaper option I shall go ahead with kcut

Most people use Kcut from what I've heard, so I'd go for it..

Re: Ofsted/my friendly uncle/I don't know
Antipathy used a 4mm aluminium bar with steel teeth bolted to the ends. The aluminium is plenty strong/stiff enough and the teeth are easy to replace.
Don't use hardened materials for teeth (like utility knife/scalpel blades) as they shatter when they hit anything. Tempering them means they don't break but then they do get worn quite quickly.
Weight nearer the ends is most effective (think bicycle wheel) as long as the bar is stiff enough. Aluminium is much easier to balance as it's easier to file bits off the get the balance right. If you don't balance the weapon you won't be able to spin it very fast before losing control of the robot!

Re: Ofsted/my friendly uncle/I don't know
If designed correctly, it will be balanced on arrival fro Kcut. Stainless steel is a lot lower maintenance than aluminium, especially when driven by a big brushless motor...
