Its gone all big!

Post by limpet »

I`ve just had a lipo expand to nearly twice its size so I need a few pointers on how to wire up a ES9256 8v servo to get full power from it.
I took the feed directly from a second battery and the control for it from the rx, in short I bypassed having a 5v regulator thinking if it will take 8v it won`t need one.
I wired it like the attached pic. The battery puffed up when I tried reversing the polarity, luckily everything still seems to work ok, minus the unfortunate battery.

I await advice :)

You need to connect the black wire from the servo to the black wire from the receiver so that they both have a common 0V reference. Otherwise the circuit looks OK.

If you connected the battery to the servo the wrong way round you possibly short-circuited the battery which is a sure-fire way of sending it to the recycling centre. It's likely that the servo survived which is some consolation :) Alternatively, maybe you accidently shorted the battery? Although that usually results in some sparking and doesn't destroy the battery unless you persist after the sparky warning.

You don't actually need a seperate battery just connect the red wire from the servo to the postive wire from the battery.

Thanks Pete, I wasn`t far out then.
The only reason I was using a second battery was I didn`t want to cut or solder anything. There were no sparks, just a smell!

Just connected it all as your diagram and the servo isn`t doing anything, any way I can test the servo?

Check the voltage going into the servo. If you have that and the signal is connected go the receiver and the receiver is on but it still doesn't work than something may be dead. Try plugging it into another robot. Whatever killed the battery may have broken something else.

Another servo just straight on the connector works fine, the ES one only goes in one direction then will go back by hand.
Have tried it in another robot with the same results. This is with it just on 5v at the RX.

If the servo will only respond to commands in one direction it sounds like the board motor driver died.

Took it apart, got that burnt out electronics smell so looks like its tatered.
Looks near impossible to get at the pot to reverse this type if anyone was thinking of that.
