A Quick Hello

Post by Spaceman »

Hello!

Just taking a minute to introduce myself.

I am Richard AKA The SPACE man. Have a bit of a fascination with Space exploration hence the name.

Anyhow I am hoping to start building a few ant weights soon and who knows what else in time.

I am really enjoying reading the forum so far. It has given me a lot of Ideas to start with.

Hello!
First question. What would be a good transmitter/ reciver combo to start off with? Thinking 2.4 ghz and 3 or 4 channel but not too expensive.

If you're looking for an inexpensive setup, i would suggest a 4 channel Blade transmitter or similar (can usually be found on ebay for around £20), and either a 6 channel LemonRx or an OrangeRx receiver. They're both very similar 6 channel receivers that are widely used. The LemonRx is slightly cheaper (about £5 including shipping i think) but it comes from china so it's about 3 weeks delivery. LemonRx comes up on google, and the OrangeRx can either be found on ebay or hobbyking (6 channel receivers happen to be very cheap for some reason :P )

Alternatively, if you're looking for a relatively cheap and easy start, Will sells antweight kits from http://www.shockbots.co.uk/shop . These come with everything you need to get started; you just have to put all the parts together and you're good to go with a pretty reasonable setup.

EDIT:
Here are the links; couldn't do them before as i was posting from my phone:

Hobbyking are out of stock of the OrangeRx, but you can buy them from ebay here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-2-4GHZ-OR ... 4d0922aaef

LemonRx's are sold here. You'd want the $5.75 ones; the only difference between them are how the pins are done. http://www.lemon-rx.com/shop/

I have had 5 OrangeRx and 2 LemonRx recivers (i have a bad habit of breaking them  ); they're identical in terms of performance from what I can tell, however the LemonRx board is 1cm shorter...

The cheap Blade transmitters come and go on ebay, here's a decent (i think..) example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radio-Control ... 258ed43992, though I seem to remember seeing cheaper at some point...

I haven't used one of these (I use an OrangeTx transmitter), so I couldn't comment on their performance, but i've heard they're quite good..

I second the recommendation of the Blade transmitter and the Orange RX. Easy, simple, cheap and perfectly functional.
