my recommendation would deffinitely be a two wheel drive pusher. my first robot was a pusher and at the last AWS it did better than my flipper and my grabber in the main competition. they're also the easiest and in most cases cheapest to build. 2mm HDPE is probably the easiest armour type to cut, mould and shape. this can be done using a small handheld hacksaw and a soldering iron.

the currently used rules are available in the announcements section of the antweight forum. good luck on your first build, hope my information helps. :D

Welcome Dan, my advice would be just to start simple and get a feel for antweight construction and combat. You'll learn fast and soon have the confidence to tackle more advanced ideas.

I decided on a kit because of my lack of knowledge. I feel the kit is a good deal as I can see myself throwing money away on the wrong bits. I hope to get to the meet in Oxfordshire so I will seek everyone out. I'll have something to bring with me so fingers crossed it'll work.

Sounds like a sensible way to start. If you do decide to move on to a spinner you could re-use most of the expensive parts from the kit - unless by then you decide you simply have to have more than one robot!

Hi Dan, Just wanted to ask if you got one of those kits from shockbots.co.uk and if so how you got on with it?
I've been busy doing some renovations to a shed recently so not had much spare time, but I've got a birthday coming up so will be looking to spend some of its funds on one eventually.

Just a quick one, has anyone else bought one from shockbots.co.uk and can offer any feedback of theirs?
Mainly interested to know how difficult it is to assemble.
