Two servos together

Post by limpet »

How can I get two servos to run together from one RX output?

You wire the the signal (white/orange/yellow) from the servos together so you get a single signal to go to the receiver. Do the same with the positive and negative. Or you can buy a Y lead which does the same job except is more expensive, larger and heavier. If you are going for a dual servo flipper you will need to reverse one of the servos.

That's what I was trying to do and it didn't work, also I had a sabretooth connected and that went dead. I will recheck my wiring.
Thanks

Sabertooth controllers (saberteeth?) tend to shut off when you try and use servos with them I think. Most get around this by using a regulator or something to power the servos or running them on the voltage from the sabertooth. That may kill the servos. Someone who uses this setup will probably advise better.

Looking at the spec for the sabertooth they say
Sabertooth has a built in 5V BEC that can provide power to a microcontroller or R/C receiver.
I think in practice this is around 100ma way below that needed by a servo.
I seem to remember people in the past have as Haz says had problems of the robot stopping when they operate the servo.
If you have tried to run two servo's from it there is a chance you have blown the BEC on the controller.
If the controller still doesent work without the servo's disconnected try checking the voltage between red and the brown on one of the receiver connection leads and if that is not 5v or very close the regulator is probably gone.

my first antweight uses a sabertooth. it was originally going to be a servo flipper robot but ended up as a pusher because of a few reasons mostly to do with the sabertooth.

1) sabertooth wouldn't power 1 servo sufficiently.

2) sabertooth was too big and heavy to accomodate the servo and flipper, this was partly due to the enormous battery pack it uses.

3) sabertooth took up too much room inside the robot.

In both Ant Clank and Ant Ratchet I`ve got big servos running with no problems at all so I don`t think its a power issue,
I didn`t mention that I`m trying to make one go one way and one go the other so it could be that, I`m going to try both the same direction and see what happens, if that is the answer then I can build around it.

You should be able to swap both motor wires and the 2 outside wires on the pot in one servo to reverse it. This should then move the other direction to the standard one.
