Putting the switch right after the battery is definitely the right thing to do. The regulator would discharge the battery albeit very slowly. You would have to remove/disconnect the battery before storing the robot for a period of time, but it would be OK for a day of competitions.

The only reason for suggesting putting the regulator first was that it might make the wiring simpler for a beginner.
Looking at the picture of the switch it appears to have three Futaba (3 pin servo-type) connectors, whilst the battery pack is described as having a JST connector which I take to be the "standard" 2-pin BEC connector.

However, I just looked at the HK regulator and it looks like it only has bare wires on one side so some connectors will have to be added anyway. In this case it would be best to wire the regulator to the switch (possibly solder it direct) then change the switch connector to match the battery.

In short, connect Battery -> Switch -> Regulator -> Receiver and change connectors as required.

Yes it will be fine, just make sure red connects to red and black connects to black. I've lost many receivers by plugging the battery in backwards!

Edit: hmmm.. I'm sure there was a message there earlier. :P

Also, why do you want to get as few items from hobby king as possible? They're a really good company. And they have a UK warehouse, so you can get lots of items dispatched from here. And their post from China is pretty good too. My most recent order of beetleweight parts cost £6 to post and arrived in 8 days, and thats with heavy motors and batteries.

I would also recommend Hobby King. I have been using them for years and have never had a problem. Allow extra time for shipping at Christmas and Chinese new year (February).

I think it depends on what PeteC can source at a sensible price. The shop doesn't really make a profit - any excess goes on hosting this marvelous forum :)
If you want a definitive answer, best to drop Pete an email robotwars101@lineone.net
