Thanks Dave while reading your response I noticed how stable the robot looked on its side in the last photo so I did some tests and sure enough on either side it could not self right. Although it was resting on the wheels they did not grip enough on their sides to tip it over. After playing with various bits of piano wire which sprung out the sides on the first flip with little success it suddenly dawned on me that if the tyre was extended around the rim it would give grip and self right so here it is with the new matching wheels.

For some time I have been trying to make some good looking curved scoops for defiant but have trouble in making them look at all reasonable.
Having seen at least one robot at the AWS with a nice curved scoop I decided to give it another go.
Then it dawned on me if it is the cuved part I have troble with why not start with a lump of material with the curve already there ie a tube.
Here is the first attempt which looks much nicer.

I blame Jim for all of this I never used to worry about such nonfunctional details until he started making robots.

Looking great Pete. Nice idea with the tubes, may have to borrow that off you at some point.
Quick question, where do you source your lint roller from? In need of some for the new build and the only stuff I seem to be able to get my hands on is the rather useless paper stuff.

Thats a very good question I have been trying to find a new source.
I ordered 3 from ebay a couple of weeks ago but they were the thinner rubber that is next to impossible to peel of and breaks up under load on the robot.
Fortunately I had given a couple of the better ones to my wife so I swapped them for new ones to keep me going a bit longer.
I thought I had some spares in the gararge but I have been unable to find them.

They sell pretty good green lint roller on caraselle. About £2 a roll as I remember.

Hi Rhys,

I had a look on caraselle however I only seemed to turn up numerous "super sticky paper" offers.
I did find this though: http://www.caraselledirect.com/_/carase ... _uk.2717-1

I'm not entirely sure how useful it would be but i purchased one out of curiosity. Will let you know how it holds up.
