same counts for the drop-off and flippers/pushers....
Not really. Having a drop off doesn't give pushers and flippers types an advantage OVER other types, it just levels the playing field a bit. An all enclosed arena gives a definite advantage to spinners, and means there is no real point building anything else if you want to be competitive. Hence why very few people bother with anything but spinners in the USA or in Oz.

Yeah it does skew the field, this arena was our first one from years ago. Was supposed to be rebuilt with a pit that lowers after the first minute like the other states arenas but it didn't get done in time. No one seems to like the concept of the drop offs here considering any spinner just ricochets out straight away and we'd rather use all the space inside the arena given the ants are a fair bit larger! :P

The crowd seemed to enjoy things none the less :D

I'm not sure anyone is "keen" on drop offs in general. Just is fairer. But yeah, I can imagine you guys need a lot more space! Lol. However, I'd say, if a spinner ricochets out the arena, its often just as much its own fault than that of the opponents. Lord knows mine are! Haha.

you do actually get a wide (dare i say wider?) range of robots and building techniques in Australia IMO.

i don't like drop offs, mainly because i build mostly spinners and my driving is pretty poor :P

I live in QLD in Oz and try to build a range of robots, including rear and front hinged lifters, grabber lifter and wedge robots. The ant weights cheaper construction costs allow us to build in different ways.

Its good to see a variety in Oz! Out of interest, how often do the spinners win compared to other types?

Spinners make up 4 of the top ten robots at the moment in the ant rankings. Scarlet, ranked second, wins most of it's fights. Scarlet is very reliable and hits hard.

I'd be interested in the results for our AWS's, the last 10 or so that we have results for. Not fair on Dave Lawrie because he never has the same robot twice :P
