Re: Ant Attempt 2 - 'Tough Justice'

It looks like you have all the bits in the right places and yes, you do only need to connect the white (signal) wire on one of the servo leads. Make sure you plug the servo leads into the receiver the right way round. Usually the black (0V) wires go towards the edge of the board and the white (signa...

Re: Robot Name Clearing House

If a robot hasn't already competed in an event (in AntLog) then you can just change its name. You don't have to create a new robot. Robots that have already competed can't have their names changed as doing so would change all the previous results. Robots can, however, be "retired" if they ...

Re: Yet another new guy!

my servo moves twice; once on powering up, to a random anticlockwise position, then again when the tx is turned on, to a set position. it's always the same position, which matches the tx settings. Always power the transmitter on first! If you don't the receiver only receives noise and any random si...

Re: Football / Hockey - rules?

Hello and welcome Ian! I'm not sure there have ever been any "official" rules for antweight football. :) It's usually a case of pick some teams (2 or more a side), chuck the ball in and stand well back! I think we've played for 3-5 minutes before. Depending on the battery capacity/technolo...

Re: Tx and RX question

It is the receiver that gets bound to the transmitter. Although the transmitter has to send a bind message it doesn't know which receiver(s) are bound to it. Consequently several receivers can be bound to the same transmitter but each receiver can only be bound to a single transmitter. If you want t...

Re: First time building diary: Third Law

I think it's fair to say that cutting 1mm polycarbonate with scissors is easy enough, but that extra half a mm makes all the difference! Tin snips and wire cutters are a good suggestion for when the going gets too tough for scissors.

Re: Best battery for transmitter

That charger will be perfect for the NiMH batteries and will also be suitable for LiPo batteries when you want to get a bit more advanced. Note that the charger runs off 12V DC so you will need a suitable mains adaptor to go with it. There are some very similar chargers that have a mains power suppl...

Re: Best battery for transmitter

First of all, welcome! We're a friendly bunch (outside the arena at least) and this forum is a wealth of information. That transmitter and receiver looks fine for an antweight, plenty of channels and memories for when you get on to your second, third... robots :) You may want to check that "Mod...

Re: Dorset Robot Championship

Looks good, and I don't see any reason why day 2 couldn't be an AWS. Given a reasonable turnout the extra events (sumo etc) may have to be for the Friday only as it generally takes all day to get through the AWS fights. If you had a separate space (and people!) to run the obstacle course in parallel...
