Re: Team Ucalegon's ants

Well, I finally got another "pink" servo, as well as a couple of others to test. One is rated at 7.4V--should I NOT run it directly off of a 2S lipo, since it's 8.4V fully charged? I'm not sure how sensitive these things are to being overvolted. (The "pink" is rated to 8.4V, and ...

Re: My new brushless weapon ESCs are OPTO, not BEC...

Cool, so if my receiver is powered through my brushed drive ESCs, I don't need to do anything different? Thanks!

My new brushless weapon ESCs are OPTO, not BEC...

I just picked up a set of BLHeli 20a ESCs to run the classic DYS BE1806 motor for my weapon. But while my old bot used an ESC with a BEC, these are "OPTO". If I remember correctly, this means I need to wire it a bit differently--but for the life of me, I can't figure out what I should do. ...

Re: Team Ucalegon's ants

I'm building another clamp/flipper, and the "pink" Turnigy servo is out of stock at HobbyKing. What other 150g-appropriate servos would folks recommend? Also, if I'm just clamping, I presume I don't need as burly a servo as the "pink" I use for a flipper. Is there a popular weake...

Re: Team Ucalegon's ants

Okay, so I now have three 150g ants, and our backyard arena is finished enough to use. Hopefully we can get a local league going soon! Here's a video my son made of our recent "event", which was mostly an excuse to force us to finish building. My friend's bot broke very quickly, so it was ...

Re: Receivers

Sorry for reopening this old thread, but since I've been switching back from building tiny quadcopters back to robots, I realize that I'm not sure how you'd use a PPM receiver with a brushless motor weapon. For my robots, I've always just used a nice fat PWM receiver with pins for each channel. How ...

Re: My first build

Is that a mini-version of the Fingertech weapon blade?

Re: My first ant was not a success: Onto the second!

Does anyone know what screw to use on "the pink servo" (linked above at Hobbyking) for attaching the horn? I seem to have lost mine, and can't find the specs online.

Re: Building a battle box

We actually began buying stuff for our neighborhood battle box--based mostly on scrounged supplies. (We found a 1/4" sheet of polycarb that's 48x39 inches, and 80/20 channel that's in 16" lengths.) Given our scraps, we could build a 3'x4' or even 4'x4' arena, but the roof would only be 12&...

Weapon materials

I'm about to start my first kinetic bot (after building a 1-pound wedge and a 150g flipper), and I'm trying to wrap my head about the weapon blade. Are people still using 2mm stainless steel (like I saw in an old post by Rory)? I have access to a waterjet that terrifies me, but I'd love to have an e...
