Re: Beginning electronics kit / Arduino kits, etc?
There is little beginner-friendly electronics in antweights. :( Basically you need: A transmitter and receiver (don't even try to make your own!) A speed controller for each motor (buiding your own is quite advanced, hacking the control boards from servos is an easy option) A controller for a weapon...

Re: Regional and Nationals
Historically the geographical spread of antweights has been poor, with most builders based in the south-east of England. (Fun fact: The Antweight World Series (AWS) is so called as a joke. The first very small event drew competitors from a small area, but if the Americans can have a baseball "W...

The "Robot Wars" Effect
Since Robot Wars returned to UK TV screens, we have seen a dramatic upturn in members of this forum. :) In fact, since the first show aired on 24th July we have had 35 new members sign up. Barely a day goes by without one or more new users! Welcome one and all! Remember we were all beginners once an...

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings
It brings to mind the question whether two robots would be allowed to share one of these modules given that everything else stayed the same? It would allow for making multiple robots on a budget which is an advantage for some people. This question (although sort of in reverse) was asked a few weeks...

Re: First ever robot with no experience!
Apart from quality variation (which you have to take a punt on) the gearmotors are all very similar. You generally want a 6V motor assuming you are using the common "2S" (7.4V) LiPo battery. There are a range of gearbox ratios available, but some vendors quote RPM instead of gear ratio jus...

Re: Help needed -faulty rx channel?
Since the receiver works off 4-11V and most servos won't cope with much more than 6 or 7 volts (certainly not 11!) the receiver probably includes some sort of BEC/regulator to power the servo outputs. Whether it can provide enough current to reliably drive 3 servos may be an issue though...

Re: Help needed -faulty rx channel?
If you are using a 3.7V (single cell) battery, then that's your problem. I don't know your receiver but Googling for the spec indicates that it runs on 4-11V. Unless you have very tiny servos they probably also expect 5V or so. Apart from needing more volts you also don't need anywhere near 380mAh c...

Re: AWS 50- 23rd July- Basingstoke
There seems to be a weird bug that only affects AWS50. No matter how many times I set its state to "Complete" it manages to get itself set back the "Registration" so there are no "Fights" or "Results" links displayed. I'm looking into it but at the moment can...

Re: Walks robot goodness
See rule 1: Roller - A robot whose final drive output rotates through more than 180 degrees (e.g. wheels) Walker - A robot whose final drive output rotates through less than 180 degrees (e.g. legs) Shufflebot - A robot that rests on part of its body during the recovery phase of its leg movement.
