Re: Team Antiquarian build diary

I have used the JST connectors for motors, and cut away the outer plastic shield around the pins on the plug. This "depolarises" (is this a word?) them to allow easily changing motor polarity.

Re: Wheely big Help...

Hmmm. I've never disassembled one (in an orderly way) either. Now I look closely, the gearhead is riveted together, so you may ruin it for future use if you prise it apart. Just undo the 2 screws to remove the motor, and leave it off. The gears should idle around fairly freely. If you are mounting t...

Re: Wheely big Help...

Perhaps try running 3S (3 x 1S in series) on the slower motors, if your ESCs can handle it? Alternatively, you could remove the final gear cluster from an N20 gearbox to make the output shaft into an idler, for a non powered wheel. Without knowing your full setup, these are just ideas to get by in t...

Re: T_Y's Build Log

A tip I figured out, when removing/desoldering multiple header pins ..
Carefully prise the plastic pin holder off first, then desolder and remove the pins individually.

Re: Ant Attempt 2 - 'Tough Justice'

Yes, those are capacitors that come with the DasMikro, in the picture.
The N20 motors don't really seem to need them.
You will have to acquire the resistors separately if you want to use them for braking.

Re: T_Y's Build Log

Well, braking would generally be a good thing, subject to personal driving preference. But on these particular ESCs, which I presume are primarily intended for RC cars, braking means you move the stick up to go forward, then far down to stop with braking, then back to centre, then back down if you w...

Re: T_Y's Build Log

The switch on the end of the pair of wires on the JMT (and the Bustophedon) is simply for on - off. It is redundant in our application, so better to cut it off, shorten the wires, and join them together. The switch on the corner of the Bustophedon board is for the braking function. Keep it off, slid...

Re: T_Y's Build Log

We have been using the Bustophedon ESCs, and these ones: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/JMT-20A-Brushed-ESC-Car-Motor-Speed-Controller-Bothway-No-brake-function-For-1-16-1/32766637613.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.uqUWZr , with some success. I have had a couple of failures with the Bustophedons, one D...

Re: Mark's Antweight build

Thanks for that link. It just seems that an Arduino or raspberry pi board has far more functionality than is actually needed to link an RC Rx to an H bridge just to control 2 motors, so costs too much in terms of space and weight. Providing the 5 volt supply is easy enough, but I wonder if the "...

Re: Mark's Antweight build

I like the look of that TB6612 board, but can it be connected directly to the PWM outputs from an RC Rx, or would there need to be some additional "circuitry"?
And if so, is it very complicated to set up?
