Re: Walks robot goodness

That would definitely be a shuffler/walker in my opinion - really the rules are aimed at stopping what would basically be wheeled robots with oddly shaped wheels.

Re: 20th August 2016 - The Oxford Games, Carterton

There's often barely enough time at an AWS to do the AWS, let alone games at the end! I do feel like there's a lack of events other than based solely around full combat though - it's why I initiated this one, I always loved the earlier Robot Wars series with the gauntlet and trials and Simon Windisc...

Re: Meet Killer-Wolf

Hiya James/Ben/any of the various names I managed to call you (sorry!), it was good to meet you at Basingstoke :) I'd definitely recommend a plastic hinge for the flipper, with bolts to retain it, and more rigid mounting of all the components; Gary's website has a lot more information on flipper the...

Re: Introducing ProtoBot!

'fail safe' and 'on/off switch' are two different things - the failsafing should be taken care of by the reciever and speed controller. The on/off switch needs to be externally accessible, but it doesn't need to be a switch, leading to a lot of people (me included) just having some means of accessin...

Re: Advice

For the first thing, I always used Hitec HS82MGs back in the day (two or three years ago) but Turnigy have come up with several servos that are widely used; I'll defer to others on that! On the second point though, I've had good results with piano wire (around 1mm diameter should be enough). Bent pa...

Re: ESC and Micro Motor Question

For some perverse reason it amuses me that you have a power switch as well as each ESC having its own little power switch. My robots go the other way and have no switches at all...I like systems like this though, I think as good as Rory's kits are (and I'm going to be getting more soon!), it's not g...

Re: Bot Building Questions!

Tin snips will do Ti, but I wouldn't honestly reccommend it as the resulting edges are a bit terrible and it ends up bending/warping a little from the cut :( You can probably get a nicer finish by cutting a little oversize and filing to fit though. A Dremel with a grinding disc will do the job quite...

Re: Peter Waller Nano Adventures

Looks very good, especially with the translucent armour :3 To be honest problems with photobucket were what led me to make a 'storage' folder on my web hosting account and link pictures from there instead - less ads, less hassle, but also less bandwidth...

Re: Drones??

I have a suspicion 'annoying and don't do much' might be why Big Robots had rules for a long time banning exposed rotating aerofoils, along with health and safety...I don't see a problem with it, I just don't really see any advantages either.

Re: 20th August 2016 - The Oxford Games, Carterton

Hiya everyone, just a reminder that this is happening (definitely this time, the hall's booked and everything and my train tickets are here!), and the format as designed works better the more people we can sign up so get to it if you haven't already! :) I'm aware Insomnia's the week after for feathe...
