Re: How Big is your Beetle?

My two Beetleweights measure as follows:

The Honey Badger 4.0: 35cm length x 22cm width x 12.5cm height
Shu! 2.0: 26cm length x 31cm width x 29cm height (noting this is when the lifting arm is in its tallest position.

Re: After the esc, the other stuff - simplistic questions

To try and answer a few more of your questions: What type and guage of wire is typically used to connect the parts? I typically use 26AWG wire, which I believe is the sort of wiring you'd see on standard JR servo connectors anyway. Never had one burn up on me in the AW class, whatever it is connecte...

Re: jes's build log

I would possibly look at this (https://hobbyking.com/en_us/orangerx-r614xn-dsm2-dsmx-nano-indoor-diy-receiver-with-cppm-pwm-spektrum-jr-multirotor-quadcopter.html). I think this was the type of receiver used in the NanoTwo but I could very well be wrong (most likely - anyone able to clarify that?). ...

Re: jes's build log

Looks good, can't wait to see it in the flesh! If you needed to save a little bit of extra weight, I might have suggested replacing the metal bolts and nuts with nylon types but I doubt they would have saved you the 1.5g needed.

Re: Budget dsm2/dsmx transmitter

I would have thought a eBay deal on a DX6i or something like that (noting they do a specific DSMX version so make sure you are sure as to which type of transmitter you are looking at) would do the job here.

Re: jes's build log

A power-on LED is not required in the Ant class, I think it's mandated in the heavier ones. It certainly is in the Beetleweight and heavier classes as per the FRA rules. As noted, it is not required in the Antweight class but I find it good measure to have *a* light somewhere, even if it is the one...

Re: Little help requested with a new bot - receiver, material sourcing etc. thanks.

@ocracoke which waterjet company did you use? did you supply the material? K-Cut (https://k-cut.co.uk/). You can supply the material or they can (I do recommend supplying it yourself at this scale because them supplying can be expensive). I originally wanted 2mm Grade 5 Titanium for a spinning bar ...

Re: Little help requested with a new bot - receiver, material sourcing etc. thanks.

I'd worry about balancing it accurately if it was done with a hacksaw and a file. I used a CAD file drawn with LibreCAD and then submitted that to a water cutting company to have it made accurately, which hopefully results in better balance.

Re: Team Phyte Antweight Builds & Event Reports

There is the possibility of that fight happening :P TBH, I don't think any of my machines have every trashed another so it'd be a new experience if that happens, I'll probably be more in shock that something I built "works".

Re: Team Phyte Antweight Builds & Event Reports

Looks very good! Reminds me of Raphael from the MW class a little. Hopefully will get a chance to fight it with my vertical spinner at AntFreeze. :P
