Re: AWS 41 - Caerphilly 27th July 2013

I should be able to make this event, all things being well. I'd be more than happy to have an early start and help set up and pack away as well if you need a hand Rhys.Just let me know.

Re: AWS 40

Thanks to Will, everyone who helped organise and Reading University for another super day! I thought the organisation throughout the day was excellent especially considering the number of entries. Great job on the arena as well Will, i thought it was a good size and the extra walls added an extra di...

Re: Building an Ant as a present.

Whether you are using a pair of bias resistors or 'setting the pot', it's best to leave the pot in place so that it acts as the axle for the output gear. When using a pair of resistors I disconnect the pot and glue it an arbitrary place, then drill out the final output gear with a 1.5mm drill to all...

Re: Building an Ant as a present.

I'm pretty sure the Hobbyking Tx's are rebranded Flysky Tx's (generally these seem to be more widely available in the UK) so the USB interface should be interchangeable for both. A quick search for "Flysky" under the discussion tab for the Hobbyking USB interface confirms that users have i...

Re: Servos as speed controllers and cheapo 9g gear motors!

I've used SG90 boards driving those chinese 540RPM gearmotors you list in your first post in the past off a 6V battery. They work, but the lifespan of the boards is questionable since they already run pretty warm with the smaller motor in the stock SG90. I've had one board fail in the last few month...

Re: Building an Ant as a present.

Yes that's the transmitter. I think you'll need the USB interface in order to connect to your PC, but that's only a few dollars and saves the weight of a mixer in the robot. I use 540RPM motors on around 20mm wheels off a 2S lipo and would say that gives reasonable speed (felt a little slow compared...

Re: Building an Ant as a present.

Welcome to the forum and nice idea for a present! As you've already found, AAs are really not suitable for an ant which is going to be somewhere near the 150g weight limit. I use 6V 120mAh nimh batteries in a couple of my ants from the following site http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/small_packs....

Re: What range of pulses does an RX31 reciever output

Thanks for the info Andy. I've used 4 & 6 channel Orange RXs and my results were very similar 1.112->1.908ms. I'm not sure on the accuracy since I used a simple logic tool rather than a scope but the results were repeatable (whether they were wrong or right...) This leaves me with a centre posit...

Re: AWS 39 - Coventry - November 3rd, 2012

Thanks to Scott and Andy, all your preparation and hard work on the day certainly paid off and made for an excellently organised and successful event. Congratulations to the two Daves on their wins. Was great to see the usual faces again and also nice to see some new faces also. I think the larger a...
