Re: Antweight first build diary

High density polyethylene (HDPE) is less dense than polycarbonate (PC), so less weight for the same volume. The downside is that it is a lot more flexible than PC so for the same stiffness you will end up using thicker material, so more weight... It's also almost impossible to stick anything to it. ...

She can enter as part of your team or as her own team. The only difference is that if you are part of the same team you will be put into different groups for the early rounds, so you will not get drawn against each other until/unless you both reach the finals stage - usually the last 16 at an AWS. N...

Re: Antweight first build diary

Weigh all the parts individually before you start trying to save weight, no point in trying to get 10g out of a 9g part! Can you use thinner material in some places? Or cut holes? (But you need a *lot* of holes to save significant weight) Can you use plastic screws instead of metal? If you're really...

Re: Antweight robot first build

Screws would probably be the best bet for attaching a metal shell to a polycarbonate chassis. You can tap polycarbonate (if it's >2mm thick) and use machine screws. M2 steel or M3 nylon screws would be OK. You may need to make some brackets or blocks to screw into. If you use 1mm polycarbonate you w...

Re: Bot Building Questions!

If you want to use two servos to drive a flipper they are usually mounted facing each other. This means that for both to lift one needs to turn clockwise and the other counter-clockwise. In order to reverse the direction of a servo it's necessary to do some surgery... (Apologies if you know this bit...

Re: SG90 Speed Hacking

Most glues will struggle with nylon. Epoxy is perhaps the best bet (apart from some esoteric solutions). If you can put a pin through the gears it will help enormously. Failing that, if you can drill some (very) small holes in the gears it will really help the epoxy to hold everything together.
