Re: AWS 45 - Coventry - 1st November 2014

Could you not just record the finals & play them back at the end of the show?

Re: Silly Entrance Music

Napalm Death - you suffer. Obviously.

For one of Dave Lawrie's randoms, I'd like to nominate 'the bear necessities'

Dead from the Waist Down by the band & for the robot Catatonia. Because it sounds a bit apathetic.

Re: How to fight with this robot

I am presuming that you are asking how to oppose the spinner. If the horizontal spinner only spins in one direction (Say left to right) try to ram it in that direction (the left side, but not from the front) That spinner would be vulnerable to being overturned. Getting under it & pushing it into a w...

Let me get this straight, Dave - You want me to bring Napalm to Northern Ireland?

Re: Quizzing

For the record and generally to stop this being an empty thread - I have actually seen an episode of this show. Didn't get any question right apart from the Mario one on the wall.

I wouldn't recommend me for a partner & wouldn't blame you for not wanting me.

Re: Long Term Future of AWS's

one of the reason's aws 43 ran so well was because Will allowed loads of time for the main AWS. no non spinner warm up, knockout fleas, very quick annihilator, tag team run in spare time at the end. maybe the way forward is just to scrap the non spinner warm up altogether and at very busy events ma...

Re: Rule 2j - name labels (and typographical error with rule

I disagree. I think it should remain in force. The only reason I, as a competitor with a really bad memory*, actually knows who I am fighting next is because they have the name written on the machine. It's not really like anything is shaped like what it's named after. Corn snake is neithera snake no...

Re: Rule 3c - Arena Drop-off

Should there be a minimum thickness of wall? Otherwise these walls are going to get broken or bent and everything is back to square one. Scott, this discussion format is limiting. I'll talk to you face to face again. Since I already consider this passing a foregone conclusion, it may as well be trie...

Re: Rule 3c - Arena Drop-off

I have never, ever stated my opinions to be fact. I tried to be as unbiased as possible while writing the first post of this thread, but obviously it's difficult for me to be entirely unbiased when I am firmly on one side of the discussion, and so I of course welcome opposition. I have said, and I ...

Re: Rule 3c - Arena Drop-off

Some however argue that intentionally trying to tip the balance of successful designs and strategies in a way intended to make more kinds of robots and strategies have an equal chance is not something that should be done. There are also those who believe that reducing the drop-off will actually tip...

Re: The AWS43 Feedback Thread

Less drop off is required to even the playing field between different designs and types of robots. This is an often used quote so I will ask a question: Asides from the design of the robots, what advantage does the existing drop off give to any particular robot? I put it to you all that it is none....

Re: The AWS43 Feedback Thread

If I had any concern over AWS 43, it would be the amount of room around the doorway. 8 competitors in queue? Also a lack of places to stand. Humans can't sit for long periods of time. Concerning drop off, I'd like to formally object to the minimising of the drop off zone. People don't drop off the e...

Dave, you are so going to have to set me up on a date this Cerys woman.

I think she's driving Catatonia though.

I do have a wheeled space free BTW.
