Re: Dorset Robot Championship - 24th November 2018

Thanks guys
If there's time and bots the I don't see why not, but I don't think we'll have any/many automated sumo bots- just normal ants.

There'll also be the mohawk award for whom can beat one of Tim's bots in the quickest time!

Re: New Arena

Thanks again for all your feedback everyone. We're still finalising the design as we keep getting tips that improve the design. To summarise where we're at: The arena itself is modular having two piece that can be bolted together. Our standard size and mobile set-up will be will be 1200 x 1000mm. Wh...

Re: New Scientist Live 2018 London

Update on this idea: Turns out they were already in talks with 'another party' about having a large arena at the event this year..! The costs for that are very high, so they're not sure if it'll go ahead. They've asked me to talk with them again in March to explore further if the other option doesn'...

Re: New Scientist Live 2018 London

Would there be scope to claim back travel costs etc. from New Scientist Live? At this stage I think it'll be most likely that any expense cover would have to come from us (Atom Club) rather than NSL, so we'd have a donation box or charge a small participation fee to cover as much of our costs as po...

Re: New Arena

Thanks Alex

To clarify, there would still be full enclosure as the shrapnel would have to travel through the camera enclosure too, which would be made from the same thickness.

Based on the feedback I think we have what we need to draw the plans so will come back shortly

Re: New Scientist Live 2018 London

Thanks for the speedy response! It's a fair way off but if the dates work out then I'd happily volunteer, it sounds like a good venture. Were you looking for resources as well (arena, demo bots etc.) or just the man hours? We'll definitely need some bots, but we'd take our arena up in the van with o...

New Scientist Live 2018 London

Me again - who is this new guy with all the posts? Sorry... We (Dorset Science & Tech Centre) have a stand booked at NS Live in September (London Excel Centre) and we always lay on an activity. Last year it was the Mission to Mars simulator. It just crossed my mind that we could probably get some ex...

Re: Dorset Robot Championship

Thanks Gary Yes it was the pricing structure I was most worried about due to a different demographic between the existing antweight community and the local newcomers we're trying to encourage. We're limited in capacity and due to our planned marketing, we're expecting a lot of newcomers. So we wante...

Re: New Arena

Thanks Gary - really appreciate it I think you're right and we should expand the size of the box to allow for bigger trenches. Our original sizing was driven by some cheap sheets I was offered, but we can still utilise them for the side panels and doors. We're using the Peter's arena as the basis - ...

New Arena

Hey everyone We're sitting down this week to design and order parts for our new Antweight arena. There's a lot more experienced people on here than us, so I was hoping for some feedback... Size: We're planning on making the PC box around 1.2m x 1m, with a small trench between the arena and walls - d...

Dorset Robot Championship

Hey everyone The aim of this post is to: 1) Announce a new 2-day antweight championship this year - November 23rd-24th 2018 2) Collect feedback on the event format (including on entry costs) 3) Ask if the second day (Saturday 24th November) could be part of the AWS I've just opened my own education ...

Re: Aws’ for 2018

Thanks again for all your help and advice everyone (including on pm and email) - I really appreciate it. We've agreed a change of date which based on the feedback received, we believe will work better for AWS regulars. The schools only day is confirmed for Friday 23rd November 2018. Meaning the main...
