There are many different types of battey, but the most common ones for antweights are listed below. Generally radio equipment and servos require 4.5 - 6.0 volts, but there is some room for different. Standard radio battery packs are 4.8v.

NiMh - Nickel Metal Hydride cells. These can be bought from RS or Maplin in several forms. Robots like PAnts use the single 4.8v PCB mount cells. NiMh are rechargable batteries and can be recharged using standard chargers. They do not suffer from memory effects like NiCads, making them suitable for a quick charge between fights.

NiCad - Nickel Cadmium cells are the most common rechargable battery in radio control. They are cheap, easy to obtain and plentiful. They have good current drains, but do suffer from memory effects. (Memory Effect is where a battery is charged before it is completely discharged. The battery then 'thinks' it was completely discharged when it wasn't and so holds less charge. Although this can be reversed, it eventually ends the life of most NiCads.)

Button Cells - These can be hearing aid, calculator or watch batteries. They are lightweight and have excellent current drain, but they can be expensive and are not rechargeable. Small packs of these can be found on old PC motherboards.

N/AAA Cells - These are standard batteries but small. AAA are quite heavy but N cells have good alkaline characteristics and weight very little. The downside is that they are not rechargable and can be expensive to buy.
